The Commonwealth War Graves Commission maintains records of the more than 1,000,000 Commonwealth soldiers (British, Canadian, Australian, Indian, etc) that died during World War I. More than 700,000 of these are along the Western Front in France and Belgium. At the time, war dead were buried where they fell, and their rest was disrupted if at all by modest consolidation in local cemeteries.

This project connects the date of a soldier's death with the location of that soldier's grave/memorial and then animates the number of daily deaths from each cemetery/memorial to illustrate the scope of fighting in the British sector of the Western Front during World War I.
